Filevine
Cloud-based legal case and matter management.
Filevine × Motivated Marketing
Once your team completes the three steps below, we can flip the integration to live.
A scoped service account — never a real user's credentials.
Generate once, and we handle the rest of the wiring.
Rotate or revoke the PAT in Filevine without touching Motivated Marketing.
- STEP 01
Create the Service Account
A dedicated, non-personal Filevine user that owns the integration's permissions.
Filevine Account / Tenant Admin ~5 min- Log in to Filevine.
- Open Main Menu → Advanced → Service Accounts.
- Click New and select the appropriate integration.
- Grant only the permissions the integration requires.
- Click Create.
Pro tip · API access reflects whatever permissions are granted here. Start with the minimum needed — you can expand later. - STEP 02
Generate a Personal Access Token
A PAT tied to the service account is how Motivated Marketing authenticates into your Filevine tenant.
Same admin who created the service account ~3 min- Click your profile icon (top right) → Manage My Account.
- Go to Access Tokens → Personal Access Tokens.
- Click + New and associate it with the service account above.
- Select the required scopes (typically Filevine API Access).
- Click Create and copy the PAT immediately — it is only shown once.
Pro tip · If you miss the copy step, just generate a new PAT — old ones can be revoked safely. - STEP 03
Securely share access with Motivated Marketing
Send the credentials over an encrypted channel so we can finish wiring the integration.
Your admin → Motivated Marketing DevOps ~2 min- The Personal Access Token (PAT).
- The associated Service Account name / email.
- Your Filevine Org / Tenant identifier.
- Any API or base URL details Filevine provided for your environment.
Pro tip · Use a password manager share link or encrypted transfer — never paste the PAT into plain email or chat.
Enable a Certified Partner Integration
If Motivated Marketing (or another vendor) is already listed as a Certified Partner Integration (CPI) in your Filevine instance, an Account Admin can flip it on directly. Use the steps below — they complement the credentials flow above.
- STEP 01
Activate the Integration
Authorize the Certified Partner Integration (CPI) inside your Filevine tenant.
Filevine Account Admin ~2 min- Navigate to Main Menu → Advanced → Integrations.
- Find the integration you want to enable in the list.
- Click Learn More to review the integration's permissions and scopes.
- Click Activate to authorize the integration for your environment.
Pro tip · Activation is intentionally separate from the next steps — it's the explicit Account Admin sign-off that the integration may connect. - STEP 02
Create a Service Account (PAT integrations only)
If the integration uses OAuth 2.0, you're done after activation. For PAT-based integrations, create a dedicated service account.
Filevine Account Admin ~3 min- Navigate to Main Menu → Advanced → Service Accounts.
- Click New and select the integration from the dropdown.
- Enter a Name and Unique Name for the service account.
- Choose All Permissions, or pick 'I'll add permissions manually later' for granular control.
- Click Create.
Pro tip · OAuth 2.0 integrations finish authorization automatically on the next login — no service account or PAT needed. - STEP 03
Generate the PAT and share it
Mint a Personal Access Token tied to the service account, then hand it to the integration developer.
Filevine Account Admin → Integration Developer ~3 min- Open Account Manager → Personal Access Tokens.
- Create a new PAT and associate it with the service account from Step 2.
- Copy the PAT immediately — it is only displayed once.
- Share the PAT with the integration developer over an encrypted channel.
Pro tip · The integration can only reach the areas of Filevine you've granted to its service account — keep permissions tight.
Never share PATs over plain email or chat
Use an encrypted password-sharing tool (1Password, Bitwarden, Keeper, etc.) and send the secure link to your Motivated Marketing contact. Treat the PAT like a production password.
